Sir Crawford McCullagh once dominated civic and commercial life in Belfast, but nowadays is largely forgotten. This biography, written by his great-grand-daughter Susan Cunningham, seeks to bring his name to a wider audience.

Sir Crawford, born into a farming family, became the longest serving Lord Mayor in the United Kingdom. He guided Belfast through both World Wars and helped to create its commercial centre.

In remembrance of the Fallen at the Battle of the Somme he initiated a 5 minute public silence, a concept which has been widely copied around and used around the world ever since.
