The Author
Born in Newtownards but raised in Ballyhay before moving back to the town some 50 years ago, Hugh has gained a well earned reputation as one of N.Irelands best short story writers winning numerous short story prizes from local N. Ireland  competitions to UK wide events.A regular contributor to the Newtownards Chronicle he has written the paper’s Christmas story for over 25 years. This is his fourth book with Ballyhay Books following on from Back Across the Fields of Yesterday, The book of 1000 beautiful things and Yarns from the Ards. As well as writing, Hugh is a gifted story teller. Well known on the local story telling circuit, Hugh had a regular slot telling his yarns to an appreciative audience on Walter Love’s Radio Ulster show for over 17 years.
