A major fire in 1995 destroyed the Commons Chamber in the Parliament Buildings at Stormont, and in the aftermath, it emerged that there were very inadequate records of the details of the Chamber on which to base a reconstruction. It was therefore decided to commission an archaeological excavation to recover all the information which this rigorous approach could produce. The results of this 'fire archaeology' informed the restoration, together with all the other sources of evidence.
Parliament Buildings, Stormont details this historic restoration and shows in full colour photographs the transformation as it happened.
